MOOD BOARDS
SKETCHES
MOCKUPS
For the first iteration, there are two types of eyes on the same face, making it a little disturbing, but helpful nonetheless. With this iteration, I was able to grasp a better concept of how to make a piece of bristol into a rounded 3D figure.
Following the previous mock-up, this is my final hand-cut mask, prepared for the next stage.
In order to save on paper and time before I attempted a third iteration, I wanted to try out a different style of Garfield that I am more comfortable with. This led to a smiling version with circular eyes rather than oval eyes.
Originally aiming for a more tradional Garfield with this second iteration, I tried out the cartoonish oval eyes. In this iteration, I also added his stripes and attempted to make the eyelids with a single piece of bristol that goes over both eyes.
TO ILLUSTRATOR
After finalizing the design, the mask is dissembled, laid out on a black background, photographed, and translated it into Adobe Illustrator. This way, it can be sent to a machine to be cut instead of doing it by hand.
FIRST CUT
INSTRUCTIONS
The style of the instructions are done as if it is a comic of its own. Drafting it in a sketchbook, it is then reordered and refined into Adobe Illustrator.
